It's great to have Harmonic Dissonance back home, where it began. Kind of bummed about the lack of the old mission archive though, lol. I hope it's backed up somewhere incase anyone wants anything from it? I have the first 476 of them backed up - I think I used to have more, but they were on my external HDD and it um, fell on my head and crashed, so I only have the last CD backup I did of EVERYTHING and that was a couple years ago.

You can still have NPCs :) You just have to remember they're strictly that, Non Playable Characters - everyone can use them if they want to, and they can't be used in place of your own character - so no 'secondaries' really.

I can't remember, and the old HD isn't here for me to go and check the thread, hopefully Angelic will comment on it, when he looks around. I know we were talking about scrapping them because they just inhibited creativity, and most weren't playing their characters according to them anyway, or something, but I can't remember if we did or not.

It's a steampunk/fantasy based role playing game. Basically you make a character, and with it, interact with other user's characters. You can do missions, campaigns, battle with other players or do some freelancing. With money that you earn from missions/battles/campaigns, you can buy weapons/armour/skills to make your character stronger.

You're in it LOL. Everything would probably make more sense if we still had all the stuff that's been done in the past, at the moment it looks like a clean slate, but it's an established world. You create a character, describe them, etc (go and look at the character profiles subforum for examples) and then you use that character to write within the world of Rael. Missions are like stories where your character is the central figure, the plot is like a big round-robin story where everyone writes their own part with their characters. The guides explain the world, so that you know what the setting for what you're writing about is.

That help any? ;) If you don't like writing, you won't like HD.

when i wrote merits and flaws guide all those years ago, it was mainly a quick cheap way to expand character background without having to write in a great lot detail

and so who stops you from integrating such characteristics into your profile and roleplaying it? its just not official anymore i suppose :mellow:

Generally, you should make characters that are unique. If you don't have enough imagination to think of a character bio, then interacting with other people might be too difficult.

Really, you should be able to think of one on your own. If you can't, then you can go for the cliche, I-Had-An-Accident-And-Can't-Remember-My-Past.

I want to post in the campaign, but because I started off in the tavern I'm kind of stuck there at the moment (I've just met Palme and Lacha! It would be awkward to meet in Campaign at the same time). So I will wait a little before events at the tavern make conditions favorable to post in the campaign without any oddities.

- At level 5 Nariël can completely regenerate herself from pretty much any form of damage as long as one brain cell remains intact to start the regeneration process - this rendering her virtually immortal. However, the bigger the damage, the slower the regeneration.

Virtually immortal. And only one brain cell needs to remain intact. Convenient as brains have billions of them.

I don't want this to sound like a rant, it's just a question. How can someone beat her if she can regenerate. Even if it takes a week to grow back a head, she will live. Her opponent would die of old age in the end.

Am I missing something?

Well, considering you can't actually kill a character when a player fights another player...I don't think there's anything wrong with it. The regeneration takes time, meaning when enough damage is dealt, she'll be immobilized and unable to fight (in PvP anyways). Moreover, strictly speaking in regards to PvP, victories aren't decided on which character renders the other unable to fight (as far as I know), otherwise each player will one-up each other in a never-ending cycle of
1: "I beat you down to the ground!"
2: "I get up and curb-stomp you, paralyzing you"
1: "I cast a spell which requires no movement to burn you into a crisp"
2: "I create a barrier to block the spell and proceed with more curb-stompage"

The only times this ability would be used to its fullest extent (the level 5 description) would be during campaigns and missions...which isn't necessarily god-modding at all as you decide how the mission/campaign plays out

Why wouldn't this ability be used during pvp? It doesn't say that it isn't allowed. Unless neko says he will never use it.

Oh, by "fullest extent" I meant like the "full regeneration even with 1 brain cell left" thing. You can't really chop off an arm in PvP (although you can IF you make the regeneration thing happen yourself), so the way I see it...if you can only deal little scratches on her, you shouldn't be fighting her in the first place XD

From my interpretation, it's akin to a healing ability in PvP...since no fatal damage can be dealt in there, it's similar to using an ability that heals wounds

Like Chris said, you don't really kill eachother off during the battle. Besides, it doesn't mean that, despite the fact that she's alive, she's not exhausted after something like that. Besides, I'm not that much into pvp myself, I generally am busy enough with missions/campaigns/etc ;)

But anyway, killing and cutting off parts isn't allowed.

Adding on to Hiei's question, how exactly are the PvP battles going to take place. Because if we do them like usual, well....an example....

At the moment we don't really have seperate stadiums anymore, they weren't used that often. In fact, hardly anyone ever used the seperate stadiums.

So you just use the TCS forum :)

@Teamond: Basically you write it like the pub/missions/campaigns etc. In the end you're judged by the way you've handled in battle, not by wether you've won or lost the battle :P So even if you lose, you can still get the EXP ;)

Godmodding is heavily frowned upon XD Well, you're allowed to do it, it's just very unlikely you'll win with it :P That's the nice thing about this system, godmodding won't help you.

And cutting off someone's limbs is, unless they have a healing move to get them back, instant disqualification.

edit: I'm currently rewriting the shop with custom stuff for all classes. Everyone's gonna be a priest when they see this:

- Holy cross (heavy weapon for pounding heathens) 2500 GP
- Sacred flame (upgrade for holy cross, use it as a flamethrower to burn heathens) 2000 GP


Who doesn't want to pound a heathen into the ground with a giant cross and then burn them? XD

I believe that I have an idea fellow rp'ers. From what I've seen so far, all there is is campaign missions, individual missions, and PvP battles. This got me thinking, "where's all the history, the fables, etc" of the world of Rael. So I thought that maybe we could have a thread were people could post history of certain towns and/or biographies of certain important people (eg. high minister of the elven council .......). I don't intend this to be mission like, so there won't be any lay-out or brief as such or rewards. But just a place for people to write freely and contribute to make the past and backbone of Rael.

Then that got me thinking about free-writing. I know I've had a great idea for a story, but it doesn't fit any of the missions, and I'm sure some of you have too. So, why don't we have a post where people could just write up an interesting story; or perhaps add some event to a character so it changes some sort of non-game-applicable detail (eg, custom clothing, personality etc.) This could further more craft our characters and contribute to rp'ing even more.

Remember, content and details make a good game, in this case, a story. Its just a suggestion, and it may not work, but its just an idea that I had.

I think the freelancing threads for each continent are a bit silly. I think it'd work better of everyone can create their own freelance thread whenever they feel like doing a freelance mission.

Doesn't matter if you go over. As Rantan said, they're supposed to be a minimum.

But longer missions tend to get marked later. Like my mission that was supposed to 8000 characters, but I wrote 17000...
