Biography:

Devereaux Legacy

The Devereaux Family is that of high business. For generations they have resided in North Zoshnel and have been one of the main producers of fine, standard and customized firearms. The family kept their secret art of gunsmithing to themselves; nobody outside of the family knew how to make as powerful of weapons, especially Revolvers, and how to make the special, customized “Balle de Centre” (literally, “Center Bullet”). These unique bullets were intended for the “Sept” model revolver invented by Abel Devereaux.

The revolvers contained the average six-shot cylinder, but the special guns (only for highly respected gunmen known by the family were ever honored to receive one) that the family made were designed to have a Seventh chamber. This chamber could only be opened with a certain type of “physical code;” this “physical code” was a special movement for the gunman to twirl the gun and spin the cylinder. When the code was finished, in perfect timing (it only take about a second and a half to do correctly) the cylinder will come to a complete stop, and the Seventh chamber will be (only then) ready to fire; opening the chamber to even load the Balle de Centre was a code in itself, and it is not known. Some may think that when you load the cylinder with the standard six-shots that the Seventh chamber would also be visible, but this is not the case. It is passed down from people that the Seventh chamber has an entirely different firing mechanism, so opening the cylinder wouldn't do anything.

The mystery and code was made, and kept secret so that competitors and close family enemies could not steal the idea for the sake of the Deveraux's pride and immense creativity and break-through technology. Why people are so fascinated with the Balle de Centre is that it is capable of piercing through some of the strongest armors and substances, and some Balle de Centre have been created as explosives, among other specialized bullets made by Deveraux.

There is not a written book of the secrets to making this mysterious firearms or their unique and revered bullets. All of the information is only passed down through the family, and even then, the information in which who it is passed down to must go through a serious of trials to prove themselves as worthy of knowing the Family Secrets. Some feel that the Devereaux are a cult, but they most certainly are not, and their bloodline is diverse, but they keep to themselves and have strong feelings of loyalty and high respect for every member of the family, especially those who shown they deserve it.

Story of Jacques Devereaux

1a. Birth
Jacques was born in Hielos, North Zoshnel, to that of Roy and Claire Devereaux. Jacques' older brother by two years, Octavien, was already learning how to read proficiently and even starting to run steadily. Jacques was born into a family of high intellect and knowledge, as well as being multi-talented.

1b. Jacques' new interests
When Jacques reached the age of five, his parents had their third and last child, a girl—Gisèle. Jacques had been starting to read at the age of one, and began acrobatics at the age of three in a half. He had acquired a fascination with human physiology and anatomy, so when his mother was pregnant with his sister, Jacques was very excited! He witnessed the miracle and had found a large appreciation for life. Octavien, on the other hand, didn't care too much for the new sibling; he had started to grow jealous of Jacques' quick learning ability and proficiency with everything, or anything, that he did. And now Octavien was definitely not looking forward to another genius child to outdo him. Octavien despised Jacques ever since he started to read at an earlier age than he did, and now he does not even give Gisèle a chance; Octavien becomes quiet and studies hard on subjects such as warfare, gunslinging and even turned to researching the Darkanians.

Jacques played with his sister and seemed to be inseparable from his new sibling. One day, Gisèle got up at the tender age of one and a half to walk over to Octavien, immersed into a book, and wanted to play with him. Octavien pushed her down and pointed at Jacques. He exclaimed, “Young Gisèle, go and play with your real brother!” Gisèle, on the ground, started to cry. Jacques overheard Octavien and argued, “'Real brother? Octavien, we are all family here. Gisèle is just as much my sister as she is yours. We are from the same blood and that same blood flows in each other...” Octavien stood up and stared at Jacques. He clinched his fist and swung at Jacques, hitting him right in the face. Jacques fell to the ground, dumbfounded, and his nose bleeding. Wiping the blood from his face, Jacques stared at Octavien and questioned, “Why, Octavien? I've always looked up to you.” Octavien responded, “That's not my blood on your hands, it's YOUR family's.”

2. Octavien, The Distant
Octavien, at this time, would lock himself in his room and only come out when the family ate meals together. This was the only time that any of the family members saw Octavien. Jacques grew worried about his brother, and he still wondered why Octavien would be so cold to him and his family. Jacques had the Devereaux appreciation for family and togetherness. He loved the miracle of life and held it dear and precious to him and so did he keep his sister, Gisèle, safe and under his wing.

3. Jacques, The Peacekeeper
When Jacques was twelve years old, he had studied hard and long to become a master of philosophy and reasoning. He had also become a fine acrobat and could maneuver out of many situations. Due to his peaceful ways of thinking, many kids his age would poke fun of him and want him to fight him. Jacques wouldn't want to fight and try to reason with the kids and explain to them that hatred with your fellow man is wrong. He could easily dodge punches and, as it looked, could knock down the other kids with a swift spin or juke. Many of the kids would eventually become frustrated, not landing a single scratch on Jacques, and would say a nasty comment and run off.

One day, Jacques was with Gisèle and she wanted to climb one of the extremely large trees in one of the parks of Hielos. Jacques let her run off, and he was thirsty and went to get a drink from a salesman down the street. Unknown to Jacques, Gisèle was soon bothered by a group of older teenagers. They were harassing the young girl and started abusing her. When Jacques returned, he had seen the young men standing around her and kicking her. Jacques became enraged and yelled out at he teenagers, “HEY! What are you doing to my sister?!” The young men stopped, and turned around to Jacques. “Oh? What are we doing, you ask?” They sarcastically growled, “You should come over here and you'll find out yourself! I know you want to see your sister...she looks like she's enjoying it!” Jacques' anger heightened and they young men felt a strong gust of air surround the area. The trees were heavily swaying and the grass seemed as if it were flowing like water. The teenagers started to make strong efforts just to keep up on their feet. Jacques started walking towards them, with an angered and ambitious look on his face. The teenagers started to fall down, in which they all did. Jacques noticed that Gisèle was badly hurt, and the wind was not affecting her, but it was seemingly healing her. Jacques started to feel better at the sight of his sister being nursed. The teenagers felt the winds die down, and they stood up. They were scared out of their minds, but they felt they needed to make-up for their weakness. They attacked Jacques and left quickly after he was knocked down and punched out.

When Jacques awoke, he found himself in a very realistic dream. He felt he was floating, as if the winds were carrying him through the clouds above Rael. A voice spoke to him, “Young one, do not be afraid. I am here to comfort you—I am your ally.” Jacques was confused, but he felt relaxed. The voice said again, “I am Hainiel—goddess of the winds. As do the other gods, I watch over the people of Rael and protect them. But you, Jacques, I especially have been watching over yourself. You strive and preach for people to gain their freedom though life. I have have blessed you with a fortune to uphold these principles. May you use your rich fortune of power the of the winds to help you.” Jacques had felt the winds surround him, and they comforted his body. He fell asleep. When he woke up, he knew that it was not a dream, but it was a vision. He saw Gisèle lying where she had been beaten. She was untouched, and without pain. Jacques picked her up, and they went back home.

4. Octavian's Banishmen
Jacques hated to see people in pain, especially his loved ones. Jacques knew he had to take up on his family's legacy: Gunsmith. Jacques dedicated his time to studying firearms with his father, Roy, while still enjoying time playing with his sister and his mother, Claire. Jacques had made his first firearm at the age of fourteen. Octavien had already made many guns, and was already a highly skilled gunman himself. At the age of sixteen, Octavien asked if he could learn the family's secrets. His father, Roy, refused and told him that it is the family's tradition and ritual to undergo studying and learning when the child has turned eighteen years of age—and adult. Octavien grew furious with his father, and pulled a gun on him. Octavien, acting out of emotions, fired his gun at his father, but Roy had swiftly pulled his own gun out and shot at the bullet that Octavien fired. The bullets clashed between them and flattened each other; Roy quickly grabbed his son and shot his pistol, disabling it. “Son,” Roy stated strongly, “I have no idea why you have been so distant from our family since Gisèle was born, but this is the final straw.” Roy let go of Octavien and pushed him into the floor. Roy continued, “If you ever think of pulling a gun your father again..” Octavien interrupted, “Father? You really you have the nerve to call yourself my father? Listen, Roy, I am no humans son! I am the son of Infernia! She is my creator and I am her loyal servant.” Roy looked at Octavien and said, “You shall never learn the secrets of our family. If you yourself have cut ties with the family, then I shall acknowledge your curse. I have no choice but to disown you. Good-bye.” Octavien picked up his damaged gun and fled.

When Jacques had come to know this, he wept. And so did his mother and his sister. Roy had said to Jacques, “You, my son, are the one to carry on our family's legacy. It's your destiny to reign in the new era of our family business and bring fortune and power to our name.” Jacques accept his father's word, and continued to study with him.

5. Jacques Deveraux, Co-owner of Devereaux Gun Co.
Now, eight-teen years old Jacques was ready to undertake the family's secrets. His father taught him new exercises to work on for fast reactions, pinpoint accuracy (as well as consistency), highly-advanced gunsmithing, as well as public showmanship, style and business. Jacques had acquired a taste for looking stylish and carried himself high and with respect. He had learned how to create the family's firearms, bullets as well as the highly-regarded Revolvers, the “Sept” (“Seven”). His father, however, could not teach him how to make the ultimate Revolver; the gun that fires the fastest, bullets travel the longest and hit the hardest, and has the most powerful Seventh chamber imaginable. Roy did not teach him how to make the gun, because Roy doesn't know how to make it himself. The gun was made many years before Roy was born, and even before his own father. The gun was made and passed down generations from the head of the Devereaux family—Abel Deveraux. The special gun was named “Revolver Voulu” (“Wanted Revolver”) because many men who were the Devereaux enemies sought after the gun, but constantly failed. The revolver was made with a special substance in the metal in which the Devereaux were only immune to. The substance is unknown, but the knowledge that the Devereaux have a unique bloodline (with their high intelligence and multi-talented abilities) supports itself. It's a family tradition that the gun is passed down from the father to the “most deserving” son. Jacques was the next in line.

Jacques has now become a skilled gunsmith, businessman, gunman and preacher. At his age of twenty, he has moved the family business higher than his father had originally expected. Gisèle has taken interest in the family's business and travels around the town (and to neighboring villages) to sell to new and continuing costumers. Although Jacques has been able to boost the business, everything is about to take a different turn.

6. The Human-Darkanian
Octavian, after running away from home six years ago, returns to Hielos. His mission was to lose and forget his human upbringing and adapt to the Darkanians. He dressed much like them, and sought out after any of the remaining Darkanians. When he had met up with them, they shunned him, but after two years of trying to communicate with them, the Darkanians accepted his repentance. Octavian was back to kill.

He silently crept into town and returned to the Devereaux home. It was night, and Octavian gained access into the master bedroom where Roy and Claire were sleeping. Octavian snook up on Roy, took his pillow and tried to smother him. This awoke Roy and Claire. Roy instinctively grabbed his revolver from under the bed and shot Octavian in the arm. Octavian stopped smothering Roy and was holding his arm in agony. At this time, Jacques had come to the bedroom and say Octavian standing in front of the bed with Roy holding a gun straight at Octavian's head. Claire, at this time, was hiding under the covers, weeping. Octavian spoke, “I've been meaning to kill you, Roy. After all these years from home I had finally met my reason for life and to learn how to deal with my emotions. I must kill all other races to become the supreme of this world. I knew I had to start with you, my dear Roy, because your weapons defend the ones who I wish to destroy. May you be consumed by the darkness.” Jacques, standing right behind Octavian, pulled out the Revolver Voulu and placed it against the back of his head. “Leave, Octavian.” Jacques stated, “You are still my brother in my eyes, but you will leave this place if you have turned into what you say you are. I don't want to kill you.” Octavian laughed. He quickly moved out of Jacques point of fire and hid. He re-appeared by Roy and used some sort of magic on him. Roy instantly fell into his pillow, and his skin turned pale. He was coughing up his blood and appeared helpless to the dark magic. “You won't die now, Roy, but I assure you-- it's only a matter of time. Good night, pathetic humans.” Octavian jumped out the window and Jacques ran towards the window and started shooting at the shadow. Jacques had hit Octavian and pinned him. He jumped out the window and ran after him.

“So, you think you've got me, little Jacques?” Octavian mentioned, “Don't you think you should get back to your dying father? And don't you think I wasn't just going after him. I am going after the entire Devereaux existence!! Your estate is about to explode and your gunsmith shop is about to go up in flames with it too... why are you following me? There's more important things to handle, aren't they?” Jacques cocked his gun and was ready to kill Octavian when he heard Gisèle's scream. “I'll kill you someday, Octavian.” Jacques stated, “I may not like it, but I cannot see my family's blood on my hands once again.” Jacques ran off to rescue his father, mother and his sister. He had gotten them outside and far from the estate, and he did so just in time. The who building started on fire and explosions throughout the house occurred. It seemed that everything was set up perfectly. Octavian had mastered the art of concealed explosives.

7. Destiny calls
The family moved into a hotel in the inner city that night. Roy was very sick, and he breathed his last breath a week after the attack. Jacques wept, his mother grieved her loss and Gisèle cried too. The family would never see the fortunes again, and the Devereaux Gun Company went under. The only ones with the secrets was Jacques. It was now Jacques' quest to find Octavian and stop him from hurting others. Gisèle wanted to help, and Jacques trained her the next four years in the art of gunslinging and taught her gunsmithing techniques. Claire did not remarry and has absolutely no intention of doing so. She grieves her loss, but stays a widow and keeps her love alive in memory of her husband, Roy.

Jacques' vision twelve years ago has become a reality. His fortune was not in money, but in freedom of life.

Merits: Good-looking, Intelligent, Kind, Focused
Flaws: Conceited, Stubborn, Over-confident, Somewhat emotionally unstable

Equipment:

”Revolver Voulu” (“Wanted Revolver”)
A one-of-a-kind Revolver made by Abel Deveraux. It's mechanical power is great and unmatched, however, it's full potential can only be used by the inventor of the gun himself; there is no knowledge or even word of how to unlock the full potential—it's a mystery, even within the Devereaux family. However, the revolver, by itself, is of good power and the Seventh chamber is capable of being opened with the standard code. There are certain skills to use this gun, and only those of Devereaux blood are able to hold the gun, let alone fire it.

NOTE: This gun, on it's own, is a typical “Sept” Revolver model. What makes it unique is that the gun can only be handled by a person of Devereaux blood. There are special holes in the gun cut in unique places. The reason is currently unknown; the firepower is of an average “Sept” revolver, but there are theories in the Devereaux family that say the holes hold the secret to unlocking the full potential of the “Revolver Voulu.”

Physical Abilities:

Agility
Jacques is generally a guy who can move around and run, but it takes a little more effort if he is going to dodge attacks from other people or run away from enemies quickly.

Level 1: Jacques is able to evade a few small punches/kicks before loosing his footing OR He is able to run away, but only far enough to keep his distance from hand-to-hand combat.

Level 2: Jacques is able to evade more punches/kicks OR He is able to escape to a safe “shouting” distance.

Level 3: Jacques is able to evade many punches/kicks OR He is able to escape to a safe “shouting” distance.

Level 4: Jacques is able to evade many punches/kicks and is fast enough to create a small wind to set his enemies off-balance OR He is now able to escape further than he has before.

Level 5: Jacques is able to evade many punches/kicks and is fast enough to create a small wind to completely knock down his enemies OR He is able to run and have the wind guide him to safety.

Devereaux's “Physical Code”
The Devereaux's “Sept” Revolver has a special Seventh chamber which holds the specialty bullet, called the “Balle de Centre” (“Center Bullet”). To fire this chamber, there is a swift, fast, complex “physical code” in which the gunner must execute in perfect timing. When the motion is complete the cylinder will stop spinning, lock up, and a loud “click” will sound. The “Balle de Centre” is now ready to be fired.

NOTE: This skill is linked with Devereaux's “Sept Code.” This means that some actions for the use of this skill must agree with that of the mentioned skill.

Level 1: Jacques is able to execute the code, but can only do it once per battle and it will take him a few tries to be ready to fire; the motion has not become natural to him yet (It takes a lot of focus to do it correctly).

Level 2: Jacques is able to execute the code in one try, but can only do it once per battle.

Level 3: Jacques is able to execute the code in one try, but can only do it three times per battle, given his Devereaux's “Sept Code” is at Level 2+.

Level 4: Jacques is able to execute the code in one try, and can do it many times per battle as long as the skill, Devereaux's “Sept Code” is at Level 3+.

Level 5: Jacques is able to execute the code in one try, and can do it many times per battle as long as the skill, Deveraux's “Sept Code” is at Level 5.

Magical/Alchemical/Technological Abilities: None

Support Abilities:

Devereaux's “Sept Code”
This is the first in line of the two codes invented by Able Devereaux to open the Seventh chamber in the “Sept” model revolvers. It is a standard number code in which the handle of the revolver is opened and the gunman must “finger” the correct number. The code itself is hard to do, even though the numbers you must “finger” are easy. Precision is the only way you can put the code in correctly.

NOTE: This skill is linked with Devereaux's “Physical Code.” This means that some actions for the use of this skill must agree with that of the mentioned skill.

Level 1: Jacques is able to “finger” the code and can reload the Seventh chamber. However, he must be in a completely safe area (simply in town minding his own business/away from any danger at all).

Level 2: Jacques is able to “finger” the code and can reload the Seventh chamber, however, he must be in a safe area from the enemy or danger as it takes time to execute and it will take two tries at least.

Level 3: Jacques is able to “finger” the code and can reload the Seventh chamber, however, he must be in a safe area from the enemy and takes a little less time to execute.

Level 4: Jacques is able to “finger” the code and can reload the Seventh chamber, however, it does not take much time to execute the code, but it does still take some time.

Level 5: Jacques is able to “finger” the code on his first try and can reload the Seventh chamber.

Devereaux Gunsmith Skill: “Balle de Centre”
Construct the special ammunition piece named the “Balle de Centre.” This specialized bullet take longer to make that normal bullets, but are highly effective if they are constructed well. Many types of the “Balle de Centre” are known to be made: Armor-Piercing Bullet, Grenade Bullet, Shard Bullet, Poison Bullet, Heat-Seeking Bullet.

Level 1: Very Low Quality Bullets. Jacques can now make the Armor-Piercing Bullet.

Level 2: Low Quality Bullets. Jacques can now make the Armor-Piercing Bullet and the Grenade Bullet.

Level 3: Average Quality Bullets. Jacques can now make the Armor-Piercing Bullet, Grenade Bullet and the Shard Bullet.

Level 4: Fine Quality Bullets. Jacques can now make the Armor-Piercing Bullet, Grenade Bullet, Shard Bullet and the Poison Bullet.

Level 5: “High 'n Fine” Quality Bullets. Jacques can now make the Armor-Piercing Bullet, Grenade Bullet, Shard Bullet, Poison Bullet and the Heat-Seeking Bullet.

The Researcher's Eye
The Researcher's Eye is a form of extremely high concentration and creativity. Such as normal people can research objects, history, people and interrogation, Jacques' is able to clear his mind completely and devote most of his minds actions to learning, constructing and open-mindedness. When using this “form,” Jacques will be able to study his enemies weak points and help him in some other related battle situations, as well as figuring out the secret power of the “Revolver Voulu.”

NOTE: This skill is linked with Wind Meditation. This means that some actions for the use of this skill must agree with that of the mentioned skill.

Level 1: Jacques is able to identify weaknesses of his opponent that could help him in battle. These are not critical hits, yet ones just to help him out and get a start. He can only use this once per battle. He, at this time, does not know anything of how the “Revolver Voulu” is unlocked.

Level 2: Jacques is able to identify more weaknesses of his opponent. Not yet critical. Only used once per battle. He, at this time, knows little and formulates theories on the special holes in the gun.

Level 3: Jacques is able to identify even more weaknesses of his opponent. Somewhat critical. Only used once per battle. He, at this time, begins to experiment with the special holes in the gun.

Level 4: Jacques is able to identify higher weaknesses of his opponent. “Average” critical attacks can now be found out. Only used once per battle. He, at this time, figures out that Wind Power is the key to making the gun work, but does not now how to get the needed wind power to make the gun change it's attributes.

Level 5: Jacques is able to identify his opponent's weakness. Critical attacks. Only used once per battle. He, at this time, has figured out how to use the true power of the “Revolver Voulu.” [Although he has figured out he NEEDS to be able to use Wind Meditation at Level 3+.]

Wind Meditation
The ability to control the Wind is an important one. Although Jacques is a human and naturally doesn't agree with magic and alchemy, he chose to learn how to control the wind to his advantage, as the spirit of Hainiel is strong with him (as it is with other beings with the Wind-element apart of them). With this skill in tact, Jacques will be able to use the wind to create small gusts of air to help him in a close range situations and will be able to move certain objects with the Wind; Jacques will also be able to channel the Wind in special objects.

NOTE: This skill is linked with The Researcher's Eye. This means that some actions for the use of this skill must agree with that of the mentioned skill.

Level 1: Very Weak effects. Small gust of air created. Practical uses: Slightly distracting opponents or pushing small objects.

Level 2: Weak effects. Small gust of air created. Practical uses: Able to push people off-balance and can push slightly larger objects.

Level 3: Average effects. “Okay” gust of air created. Practical uses: Able to push people off-balance and can push slightly larger objects. Jacques is now able to channel a small, quick wind through special objects, just as the “Revolver Voulu.” He will feel slightly weaker after he has channeled the wind and increasingly more anytime after he uses the channeling ability.

Level 4: Good effects. Good gust of air created. Practical uses: Able to push people down and can push slightly larger objects. Jacques can channel a steadier stream of wind through special objects for approximately ten minutes at a time. He will feel drained after the first ten minutes and so on.

Level 5: Great effects. Great gust of air created. Practical uses: Able to push people down, hard, and can push slightly larger and somewhat-heavy objects. Jacques is able to channel strong winds through special objects for approximately twenty minutes at a time. He will feel drained after the first twenty minutes and so on.
