Biography: Arphaxad was the son of a wealthy merchant and could have had any luxury he wanted, but because of his high morals gained from a childhood idolizing the ideals of knighthood, he forsook his father's trade and became a knight himself, living to serve others. Because of this decision and because Arphaxad had ratted them out to the public on several occasions in his childhood when they were planning something particularly shady, his father's business friends hated him. Arphaxad's natural and exceptional bent for light power further alienated him from his father's partners. Three years into his training, Arphaxad learned that his entire family had been killed and their house burned to the ground by mysterious marauders, and he vowed his revenge.
Arphaxad's investigation into the slaughter of his family landed him smack in the middle of the Order's conflict with Zeerik. After exchanging stories, he learned that Zeerik was the true enemy he sought. He soon after participated in the Order's final battle against Zeerik. For service in battle and by virtue of being the only knight from the Basaarian academy to survive the fight, he was awarded full knight's status shortly after Zeerik's fall.
After the great battle at Elora City, the Order disbanded, and Arphaxad found himself a wanderer in an unfriendly continent. His father's old business partners still held grudges against him, and they now pursue him wherever he goes, never allowing him to stay in one place for very long.
Merits:
Loyal: Once you have accepted someone as your friend you will stick with them until the bitter end. You place a lot of value on your friendships and you never betray your allies. Other people respect you because you are careful to always keep your word. What you see is what you get. Bear in mind that if you do anything even slightly treacherous you will lose this merit.
Focused: You have an extremely high level of concentration. Your attention span is much greater than usual and you can apply yourself diligently to any task. In battle you are able use abilities and cast spells without fear of being interrupted by your opponent's attacks.
Honourable: You obey a code of honour; you are chivalrous and respectable. Because of this you are popular wherever you go and people greet you warmly. Everyone trusts and respects you. However you cannot act in a dishonourable way. If you ever go against your code of honour then you will lose this merit.
Flaws:
Judgmental: You see the world in a very black-and-white way. Some things are always good and some things are always evil. You are extremely resistant to new ideas and you will defend your beliefs to the death if the need arises. Your critical remarks sometimes alienate you from your more liberal-minded companions.
Ill-Tempered: You radiate an aura of constant annoyance. Anyone who gets on your bad side is going to be in a great deal of trouble. You explode into anger at the slightest provocation and you often say things in the heat of the moment that you regret later on.
Overconfident: You have too much faith in your own abilities. We might even go so far as to say you're big-headed. Cocksure and arrogant, you disregard the advice of others when it doesn't fit in with your own plans. Beware, though, as you will find it difficult to recover from the shame of having your ego deflated.
Equipment:
Buster Smash Blade (name: Deuraytos): A two-handed, double-edged sword that is able to split into two single-edged, one-handed swords, each with 2/3 the original attack strength of the original. Deuraytos was made by an expert blacksmith using a portion of Arphaxad's light energies, and consequently is not made of steel in the strictest sense. The blade material has been enhanced by light and is thus able to resonate with Arphaxad's particular light essence. He is able to make his sword appear and disappear at will as well as charge the weapon with light energy for various combat uses.
Physical Abilities:
LightStorm Blades: Using the power of Light, Arphaxad controls three weapons at once to deal great damage. The level this ability has attained is the number of times it can be used per battle. This ability can only be used after Mana Boost is used (Mana Boost only needs to be used once per battle).
Beam Smash: Energizing a weapon with Light, Arphaxad slams down a mighty strike. If it hits, the enemy takes massive damage. If the strike is blocked, light overwhelms the target, dealing minor damage and paralyzing the target temporarily. This ability can only be used after Mana Boost is used (Mana Boost only needs to be used once per battle).
Magical/Alchemical/Technological Abilities:
Seraph Form: Arphaxad gathers light about himself to turn into a beam of light. As a beam he has an entirely noncorporeal form, so he is not affected by physical attacks or abilities, but he cannot wield a weapon or use physical abilities himself. In Beam Form all light-affiliated magical and support abilities advance one level. This ability can only be used after Mana Boost is used (Mana Boost only needs to be used once per battle). Beam form does not last forever, but as it levels up Arphaxad can stay in Beam Form for longer periods of time.
Level 2: Arphaxad is more adept at using abilities while in Beam Form, and the form will last about 4 minutes.
Level 3: Name changes to Seraph Form. Arphaxad now gains the ability to take the form of a six-winged seraph while using this ability. While a seraph, Arphaxad can take physical form and wield a weapon, but he still cannot use physical abilities. Also, Arphaxad cannot use his full speed as a seraph, and he can be affected by physical abilities. Arphaxad gains the ability to manipulate light energy, but right now he can only use that energy to blast an opponent or create a shield around himself.
Beam: Arphaxad calls a beam of Light from the sky, damaging the target and paralyzing it temporarily.
Support Abilities:
Mana Boost: Arphaxad summons the power of Light to aid him in battle. Light based abilities are more effective next turn.
HyperBlade: Arphaxad energizes his weapons with the power of Light, increasing his speed and strength. This ability can only be used after Mana Boost is used (Mana Boost only needs to be used once per battle).
Healing Light: Arphaxad calls down a beam of healing Light. At level one, this can heal minor cuts and lessen flow of blood from serious wounds.
Double Weapons: The ability to use two weapons at the same time, one in each hand. This ability increases your defence against high-level projectile weapons and high-level close-range weapon attacks because you can deflect these attacks more easily. Your chances of hitting an opponent at close range are greatly increased and you may be able to take advantage of gaps in your opponent's armour while they are blocking your second weapon. However opponents bearing shields are able to ward off both your weapons without too much difficulty. The main disadvantage to this side ability is that you cannot use the skill while you are wielding a two-handed weapon.
Level 1: There is a higher chance that you will block projectiles and sword swings or disarm your opponent. It is difficult to switch between double weapons and single weapons.
Level 2: Your defence and accuracy are improved. You can penetrate gaps in armour and sheathe your weapons more quickly, enabling a fast switch from one weapon to another. It is much easier for you to manoeuvre your weapons around a shield to inflict a hit, although less damage inflicted as your momentum is reduced by the manoeuvre.
