View Full Version : Ichigo's is upgrading!

Hello,
Over the past year, Ichigo's and Ichigo's Forums have grown tremendously. Ichigos.com site traffic in January has grown to over 101,000 visits; more than double what it was last year! Forum traffic has tripled. All this extra traffic has taken a toll on the server which I use for hosting. Ichigo's is only one of the sites I host, but it is one of the busiest and therefore demands the most resources.
In addition -- as some of you remember -- my current host has had it's fair share of, erm, issues, and I have been looking for a new provider for some time. I've finally found it in a datacenter in San Diego. I will be moving the site over within the next few weeks and you should notice very little downtime, if any. The specs I'm moving from are:
Old server:
1.7 GHz Celeron
512 MB RAM
80 GB IDE drive
1 TB transfer
to:
New server:
3 GHz Pentium 4
1GB RAM
160 GB SATA drive
1.2 TB transfer
As you can see this is a very nice upgrade. This new hardware does come with a price tag, however. While the per-month cost has only increased by $10 (from $60/mo to $70/mo), the setup fees for this server were $225.00 which I of course paid out of my pocket.
While this upgrade greatly benefits everyone at Ichigo's, it's not only for Ichigos, but also my other hosted sites. Therefore I'm not going to be holding a donation drive (like the vBulletin drive). However, I do emplore you to please help me out with defraying some of these setup costs. A few bucks or whatever you can spare is fine. To donate, visit http://ichigos.com/contribute.shtml and click on the PayPal button.
Thank you very much for your support and helping to keep Ichigo's fast and reliable ^_^

I'll ask Spoony how much she's willing to donate (and add that to whatever I'll donate). No, I'm not gonna ask her if she's gonna donate, I'll make sure she does =P

There seems to have been a problem with the database.
Please try again by clicking the Refresh button in your web browser.
An E-Mail has been dispatched to our Technical Staff, whom you can also contact if the problem persists.
We apologise for any inconvenience.
hmmmmm you think they recieve an email each time that appears. lol they would recieve like millions of emails saying the same thing.
man this new serves is like a race to find the thread you want to post in and post before the error message appears and stops you fromdoing anything

I'll check into it. In the meantime just hit refresh and it will reload whatever you were doing and usually work)

hmm, I don't think php and apache's worker threading model like eachother much. Hopefully the errors are gone now. Let me know.

Seems to be fine now... No database errors, and the avatar's appear as they should.
IRC seems to be down, but no one uses it except for Hiei, Dead Panda, the 'occasional member' (PFT, Miranda, DarkMagican, exc...), and Myself.
Then again, it may be just me; I keep getting * Unable to connect to server (on standard mIRC). Using the Ludrio's script mod, I'm able to get one stage before joining the server, but it says something about needing to register first, which never happend before.
The Java client doesn't work either.

I just saw the ad for the server (not sure if it's the same provider but they had exactly the same specs) on WHT. That's a rather nice deal you got there, Gand. IRC allowed servers for that price with those specs are hard to come by.

That’s good to here……maybe they should do one of those things where you can get levels up………you know with every post you send, you get experience and such…….they did that for other sites in forums…..wonder why,but if they did that I would certainly join again and get so many levels up.!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I think they'd do that if people didn't spam like in every thread. Another forum I go on has a sort of price system like that, but they're a lot more serious with spamming. You get more "currency" for better quality posts, but I don't know how they do that.

In the other forum I go to,(NBF in case anyone cares) they have a rep(utation) system where users can add or subtract from any users rep. this however has led to rep "races" (now accepted and even encouraged by the mods) Ratrher than this I would love to see a post count if thats possible.
Congrats and Thanks for all the work you put into this site. If I had some $$$ I would donate.. but I dont (sorry XD)

Post count was disabled for a reason, and besides, I don't think this is the correct thread for this kind of chat. This was back for a while ago, I think. This topic is out-dated and not meant to be used as a suggestions forum. ^_^
*bows* Have a nice day.
