The 2006 Winter Concert. I'll Never Forget It. The London Orchestra visited our univ. I'm the short person in the middle holding a violin. My friend is the even shorter person to the right holding the viola. Best Night of my Life!

Book 4 was pretty hard...I actually found it harder than book 5. I'm on book 6 now, on Fiocco's Allegro

Maybe I'm a devil inside...
Siggy done by the wonderful Eternal (thank you so much, I don't have Photoshop or anything like that)

I think that book 4 is easier than book 5 but book 4 was just hard because all of the concerto and shifting was new. I could be wrong though I have not peeked in my books for a long time.

EDIT: I realized after writing the post that I'd not read all of the posts and was replying as if I was directly after an earlier one. I apologize for the confusion this could possibly create.
It's true that different things are hard for different players. It's good to challenge yourself, but if you overshoot too far for you current level it can be frustrating and damaging.
Ah, Tartini's DT- my good friend. It isn't *that* hard, overall, but you've got to really discipline your hand to play those unisons in tune (and a little bit of praying on the actual day can't hurt, right?) . Personally, I needed to do a little endurance training Haha. I think the end result is decent though and the piece will be on my senior recital.
The hardest orchestra pieces I can remember playing at the moment were Prokofiev's 5th Symphony and a piece called The Chairman Dances by John Adams.Last edited by MadHattess; March 19th, 2007 at 05:04 am.

That's all right, and yeah don't push yourself too much but it is good nott to slack always doing easy stuff. A lot of tthe time, you need a challenge to learn new things. Once you learn that, you can practice it in your old pieces. The hardest orchestral piece i have played must have been either a Tchaikovsky symphony, Beethoven's fifth, Saint-Saens' Danse Macabre... lol i don't remember all tthatt i have played. Anyways after practicing a lot, all the songs i have played in orchestra were really easy. lol

The hardest orchestral peice I have done is probably Vivaldi's Four Seasons.. we plated all of them and during Spring i got the violin duet part and my duet partner kept going kind of moderate tempo and it was fast but I slowed down anywyas.(I think he was doind it on purpose since he was an old high school rival.)

Yeah i played the autumn part of the Four Seasons but i didn't think it was hard at all. Then again, my friend did the solo part.
My orchestra is working on a marimba concerto and a new piece written by some college student. The rhythm in the new piece is insane but fun when you get it. it is in 7/8 and is either in 4 or 5 flats or 5 sharps. Once you get used to it it isn't too bad just being in tune on the high notes is hard.

oh ok. lol yeah kind of like when you play DDR without any sleep for like 3 hours straight lol
. (not recommended)
At least the piece is fun when you can play it. I haven't ran into an orchestral piece that was harder than any others I have played. Pretty much every that song I have played are really easy once I practice them for about an hour. It just takes getting used to. That new song was as difficult as the Dvorak's New World and Beethoven's 7,8 and 5. I only need about an hour to be able to play them without too much trouble. Once I have the notes it is really easy. Solo pieces, however, are a lot more difficult for me because they have to be a lot more lyrical. For me, the Bruch g minor was more difficult than the first violin part of Saint-Saen's Danse Maccabre (not the solo part) and the American in Paris by Gershwin."Don't ask for it. Go out and win it, do that and you will be rewarded." (Eureka SeveN)
