[Competition] Piano Transcribing - Part 2
The competition has ended and the results are HERE.
Here are the rules to follow for this competition. - You may only use the MP3 provided to do your transcribing from. You CAN make other files from the MP3 but you CAN NOT use and other MIDI's or someone else's work on the same piece. Don't go looking for the piece on the internet to use as guide!
- The work shown must reflect YOUR WORK and YOUR WORK ONLY.
- You should submit your final product in a file format that can allow page formatting to be done (ex. PDF, MUS, SIB, etc. ).
- Any rule that I think of before the end of the competition that direly needs to be instated.
ALL VIOLATORS WILL BE DISQUALIFIED AND BE GIVEN UNCOOL POINTS!!!
That being said, here is what you will be transcribing. Do we have any Touhou Project fans here? Well, that's what we are transcribing from.
Title: 東方紅魔郷 月時計~ルナ・ダイアル (touhou kurenai ma sato gatsu tokei ~ runa・daiaru)
Composer: ZUN
Arraneged by: ようか (Yohka)
Copyright Team Shanghai Alice / Zune
Here is what the original sounds like. The MP3 you are transcribing from is attached below. http://youtube.com/watch?v=Mo6QfysFNV8
This is how you will be scored on. The person who scores the highest wins!
Rhythm – 40%Notes – 30%Expression – 15%- (____ / 24) X 15 = ____
- Tempo
- Crescendo/Decrescendo
- Key Signature(s)
- Phrasing
Articulation – 15%
TOTAL ____/100
Also keep in mind that I'm counting...
These as the same note since they are held for the same duration.
Also, I'm counting tied notes as one note like...
Final words of advice. Take your time and have fun! May the best transcriber win!
The competition has ended and the results are HERE.
GOOD LUCK!

Er what do we get if we win? Wait a sec. Do you have the original sheets? You need the original in order to judge for accuracy. But then if you have it, does that mean it's on the internet too? That'll ruin the fun.
Edit: Can you please PM me the high quality mp3 version for the original? Youtube sucks.

The MP3 is already attached in my first post and is not the youtube link.
Yes, I have the sheets of this specific arrangement. Also, if you read my post the sheets do exist online but you are prohibited from using them in any way under penalty of disqualification and uncool points.

Can you explain how can you prevent cheaters? They're not going to make it obvious. They'll probably copy it then change it so you don't find out.
Anyways, good luck to those attempting 00:21-00:41. The left hand is a bit too quiet though. I've done something much harder than that so it'll be ok for me. It kinda sounds like Etude 10-12 Revolutionary.

Wow that's pretty tough... Atleast I don't detect too many chords =)
On the side of cheaters - this is a fun event anyways, so I don't really see the point of anyone cheating to win.

Exactly ^^
There's no prize in it so there's no point in cheating.
All in the name of fun =]

You should put this topic as sticky, shouldn't you?
Edit: Wow, I just listened to the piece o_O (I thought you (Porsche) were going to post a piano music ^^). That's not easy
Is the score expected to be playable? I mean, if you have 2-note chords (also called diads, I just saw on Google) in eighth notes, it might be difficult to play

Don't give up. Josh shared you his secrets. Use them. Of course... when it comes to transcriptions (not arrangements), it can be a little hard I'm still in the game, but can you extend the deadline till the end of August? I have summer classes and I don't have time to work on it.

Maybe end of August is a bit long... End of July seems fine (I also think end of June is a bit hard). Do you agree, brncao?
Edit: Lol I just heard the piano version, I'm wondering if it isn't even more difficult Is it an original piano version, Porsche, or did you make it?
That sustain pedal is confusing the whole piece
Edit2: It seems to be original. But where did you find it?

I have finals at the end of July. College work and the semester is half of that of a normal semester schedule meaning the schedule is compressed. I prefer sometime in August.
I don't think he did make it. I'd be pissed if it wasn't an actual pianist performing that, but rather a computer generated playback with ultra-realistic piano sounds. The reason is because any arranger who arranges for piano on a software, but doesn't play it could arrange something that could be impossible. The reason it's easy to transcribe on piano is because I know its boundaries on what's possible and what's not. Oh yeah that's another secret of mine. Know the natural instruments' limitations.
